Description

Dear C-MUS

Due to popular demand, an extra C-MUS Reading Seminar will be held this year, commemorating the late geographer Doreen Massey.

The reading seminar will be held on Friday October 26th 2018, in 4.531, Rendsburggade 14.

Doreen Massey was an influential figure, both in academia and in the public debate, giving us all food for thought on matters of equality, space and distributions of power. Also for the activities in C-MUS has Doreen Massey’s thinking been fundamental, and this reading seminar will take a point in departure in her impact on our work.

A Doreen Massey Reader is due to be published in July by Agenda Publishing: https://www.agendapub.com/books/economic-geography?view=title&id=30.
Based on the content in this reader, we have chosen a number of texts that we think should be anchor points for our discussions at the seminar. These texts are:

  9. Power-geometry and a progressive sense of place (1993)
10. A place called home? (1992)
12. The geography of power (2000)
17. Politics and space/time (1992)

You are, of course, free to read the entire reader for the seminar!

Following the seminar, we propose that the discussion is transferred to an extra-university location, preferably an establishment serving beverages and snacks – we like all you C-MUS folks, and enjoy social time with you as well.

If you have any colleagues you think might be interested in this seminar, but who are not on the C-MUS mailing list, please pass this invitation on. Everybody interested in Doreen Massey is welcome!

Kind regards

Gunvor
