Brown Bag: Travels with Charley in Nomadland
In this Brown Bag seminar I will use the book ‘Travels with Carley – in Search of America’ (1962) by John Steinbeck as a parable for thinking through some of the key issues raised in the book (and movie) ‘Nomadland’ (book 2017, movie 2020) by Jessica Bruder (movie directed by Chloé Zhao). I want to address issues of mobility justice, belonging, mobility, and nomadic life forms. But not primarily via research or theory, but through the prism of literature and cinema. I will go through the mobility oriented key points in Steinbeck’s book in order to come to a more contemporary mobility / nomad discussion facilitated by the Nomadland book and movie … and see where that will lead to!
