Brown Bag: Post-Phenomenology as Material Pragmatism?

Post-Phenomenology as Material Pragmatism? - Further explorations into the philosophical underpinnings of Mobilities Design Research. During the last years of research into the emerging field of Mobilities Design, different ontological and epistemological grounds have been explored. This work has been undertaken under the label of ‘Material Pragmatism’. American Pragmatism, STS, and ANT are amongst the theoretical and philosophical fields that lend themselves to the morphing territory of Mobilities Design research. A key field of inspiration that has been around, albeit without quite as much explicit exploration, is the field of ‘post-phenomenology’. This seminar is devoted to give the thoughts of philosophers Don Ihde and Peter-Paul Verbeek a more explicit place within the philosophical underpinnings of Material Pragmatism and thus Mobilities Design research.
